Abstract  Projects1

Solar Energy Measurement System

Abstract— The aim of this project is to measure solar cell parameters through multiple sensor data acquisition. In this project a solar panel is used which keeps monitoring the sunlight. Here different parameters of the solar panel like the light intensity, voltage, current and the temperature are monitored. The microcontroller used here is PIC16F8 family.

The light intensity is monitored using an LDR sensor, voltage by voltage divider principle, current by current sensor and temperature by temperature sensor. All these data are displayed on a 16X2 LCD interfaced to PIC microcontroller.

The power supply consists of a step down transformer 230/12V, which steps down the voltage to 12V AC. This is converted to DC using a bridge rectifier. The ripples are removed using a capacitive filter and it is then regulated to +5V using a voltage regulator 7805 which is required for the operation of microcontroller and other circuits. It is possible to drive any load like a motor or any other load with power rating till 6W and can increases up to 20W.

Smart Blind Navigation System

Objective— This project aids the blind to walk easily in urban areas and avoid obstacles using special navigation sensors. The main aim of this system is to improve the mobility of both blind and visually impaired people in a specific area. The system guides and alerts the blind person of walking route and also alerts others about the blind person at night through LEDs fitted with it.

System Design— This system helps the blind person to:

1.    Navigate alone safely.

2.    Avoid any obstacles that may be encountered, whether fixed or mobile, to prevent any possible accident.

3.    Alerts the blind about obstacle’s shape, material, and direction.

The hand stick will sense the environment using two types of sensors to sense the types of obstacles. The head hat will receive the sensors signals and give voice instructions to the blind about the types, direction and the distance of the obstacle.

The main components of this system are:

·       Arduino microcontroller.

·       Hand stick.

·       Output buzzer to alert the concerned.

·       Infrared and ultrasonic sensors.

·       LEDs.

System Operation

The infrared sensor scans a predetermined area around blind by emitting-reflecting waves. The reflected signals received from the barrier objects are used as inputs to the microcontroller. Then, the microcontroller is used to determine the direction and distance of the objects around the blind. It also controls the peripheral components that alert the user about obstacle’s shape, material, and direction.

Monitoring Aquatic Debris Using Smartphone-Based Robots

Abstract—Monitoring aquatic debris is of great interest to the ecosystems, marine life, human health, and water transport. This paper presents the design and implementation of SOAR – a vision-based surveillance robot system that integrates an off-the-shelf Android smartphone and a gliding robotic fish for debris monitoring in relatively calm waters. SOAR features real-time debris detection and coverage-based rotation scheduling algorithms. The image processing algorithms for debris detection are specifically designed to address the unique challenges in aquatic environments. The rotation scheduling algorithm provides effective coverage for sporadic debris arrivals despite camera’s limited angular view. Moreover, SOAR is able to dynamically offload compute-intensive processing tasks to the cloud for battery power conservation. We have implemented a SOAR prototype and conducted extensive experimental evaluation. The results show that SOAR can accurately detect debris in the presence of various environment and system dynamics, and the rotation scheduling algorithm enables SOAR to capture debris arrivals with reduced energy consumption

Automated Control System for Air Pollution Detection in Vehicles

Abstract—Vehicles and Industries are the major sources of Environmental Pollution. Every vehicle will have emission but the problem occurs, which is due to the improper maintenance of vehicles. This emission from vehicles cannot be completely avoided but, it definitely can be controlled. As a solution to the above problems we aim to build an automated control system for emission level detection in vehicles and also indicate this level with a meter. When the pollution/emission level shoots beyond the already set threshold level, there will be a buzz in the vehicle to indicate that the limit has been breached and this information has been send to traffic control room which includes vehicle number, owner details and location of the vehicle by using GPS. In this project we will be implementing pollution monitoring system based on the amount of pollution released from vehicles. We will do this project using real time operating system, First we will find out the pollution levels that will be done using MQ7 sensor. If the pollution level detected strikes beyond the pre-defined value, then it automatically sends a message containing vehicle number using GSM and its location using GPS.  In future we can add additional prospects like traffic police have an authority to stop the vehicle remotely.

Surveillance Car Controlled Via DTMF

Abstract—The aims of this project is to build a surveillance car, which can be controlled over Internet or any private network. The objective was to do something easily and cost effectively that could be used for security purposes.

The car uses DTMF module, which takes its input from mobile phone, attached to the car. That mobile is not only used to generate DTMF tones but also for the surveillance by providing Live Footage from its camera, over the network using Android.

Conventionally, any project using DTMF requires call from another cell phone to the one attached to the project, which is not cost effective, but in case of this project we will use an android application DTMF Tone Generator that generates DTMF tone. Now for this to work, we shared the phone screen over the network using VNC server, which was quite cost effective.

Microcontroller-based Medical Support System

Abstract- Complex and chronic diseases require a frequent administration of drugs as part of the treatment. Often, this treatment would ideally consist of different types of medications and different dosage at different time of the day (e.g. night time medication could be more aggressive and induce drowsiness whereas such a treatment is often problematic during the day).
Keeping track of the exact schedule is challenging for healthy, disabled or elderly populations where regular medication is more prevalent relative to the general population. Currently, the method of choice for avoiding such errors is to use a designated packaging where pills are grouped by a daily schedule. Alternatively, a caretaker could administer the pills at the required times. However, both solutions suffer from similar shortcomings: firstly, a human error could lead to the wrong pill being administered or packaged and, secondly, the patient or caretaker might miss a treatment.
A new proof-of-concept system that detects pills automatically accordingly to a given schedule and dosage/type combinations. The system senses the body parameters of the patient and suggest the required dosage of the medicine and the time of consumption.

Abstract- The main aim of this embedded application is to detect the alcohol drunken people. We are developing an embedded kit which will be placed in a vehicle. Now, the vehicle will be under the control of the kit .If any drunken person enter in to the vehicle it gives a buzzer sound immediately, and now the car will be under the control of the hardware used. We run the vehicle by using wireless communication i.e. from Control section (acts as transmitter) we are ejecting the control signals, then the vehicle receives the signals, according to the signals it will give an alarm or buzzer.

Title: Vehicle monitoring system using PIC Microcontroller

Abstract- The project aims to design an efficient Vehicle monitoring system which can automatically monitor the individual vehicle speed and also count the vehicles on highways/roads. The system is designed using PIC microcontroller, IR obstacle sensor pairs, LCD and LED indicators. Here we place IR sensor1 and 2 in fixed distance on highways, whenever vehicle comes on the highway the IR obstacle sensor detect entry and second IR sensor cuts it detect exit entry, so that microcontroller internal timer and counter starts and automatically calculate the speed and count of the vehicle. This entire hardware runs automatically with the help of embedded c programming dumped into microcontroller. This sort of project is very much useful near the schools and hospitals where vehicle speed must be less. By using this system we can reduce the percentage of accidents on highways, by gives the speed limit alert to drivers.

Title: Solar Tracking System Based on Microcontroller Using PIC16F877

Abstract- Solar energy is rapidly gaining importance as an energy resource. To make solar energy more viable, efficiency of solar panel systems must be maximized. A feasible approach to maximize the efficiency of solar panel systems is sun tracking. A solar panel receives the most sunlight when it is perpendicular to the sun’s rays. This project is about moving a solar panel along with the direction of sunlight; it uses a geared motor to change the position of the solar panel, the PIC16F877A microcontroller, which detects the sunlight using photocells, controls the motor. The objective is to design and implement an automated, one-axis solar-tracking mechanism using embedded system design with minimum cost and reliable structure.

Title: Contribution to Development and Implementation of Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) Algorithms.

Abstract- Given that the majority of fatal accidents are caused by unintentional deviation from the path of his car, there is increasingly a need for a security system that prevents the driver when such a situation occurs. This system is known as the LDWS (Lane Departure Warning System). This system is designed to assist the driver with a warning when the vehicle may leave the lane unintentionally, mainly due to a lack of attention, fatigue and / or driver drowsiness.
It is in this context that this project, which is to aim to provide the smart car means for sensing its environment and take the necessary decisions based on an algorithm for image processing (Hough Transform) and pattern recognition techniques.

Title: Design of a control card for a pumping station

Abstract- Water scarcity is one of the major problems facing major cities of the world and wastage during transmission has been identified as a major culprit; this is one of the motivations for this project, to deploy computing techniques in creating a barrier to wastage in order to not only provide more financial gains and energy saving, but also help the environment and water cycle which in turn ensures that we save water for our future. We presented our project  in embedding a  control system into an automatic  water pump  controller  through  the  use  of  different  technologies  in  its  design,  development,  and  implementation.  The  system  used microcontroller to automate the process of water pumping in an over-head tank storage system and has the ability to detect the level of  water  in  a  tank,  switch  on/off  the  pump  accordingly  and  display  the  status  on  an  LCD  screen.

Title: Quad copter

Abstract- A Quad copter is a multicopter lifted and propelled by four rotors. In this project we aimed to build an Autonomous Quad copter which can balance itself while flying. This quad copter also consists of manual control system (transmitter-receiver). For our project we decided to build the quad copter frame in a simpler way having symmetrical four arms on which a motor with a propeller is mounted on every arm.
To make this Quad copter autonomous, we used Arduino platform to program and applied PID algorithm to calculate the output values of motor commands by using input values from transmitter and sensors. We used an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensor which gives values regarding angles and angular velocities of quad copter frame.

This system is an important tool for tracking each Bus at a given period of time and now it is becoming increasingly popular for people.

Title: GSM based human health monitoring

Abstract- Now a day’s technology is running with time, it completely occupied the life style of human beings. It is being used everywhere in our daily life to fulfill our requirements. We are employing different sensors for different applications sometimes we may even use same sensors differently for different applications. We can not only increase the speed of life but also increase security with good ideas by making use of advanced technology. In this project we are making use of technology to sense serious health problems so that efficient medical services can be provided to the patient in appropriate time.
This project aims in sending alert messages in emergency times, i.e. when a person is alone in home or travelling if he got heart attack or met with an accident then alerting messages will be send to the mobile phone, the message consist of location of that person also. Here we get the alerting message from the GSM modem (SMS Message).
The functioning of this device is based on the truth that the blood circulates for every one-heart beat which can be sensed by using a circuit the LED. Depending upon the rate of circulation of blood per second the heart beat rate per minute is calculated. This device consists of a microcontroller that takes the input from the heart beat sensor and calculates the heart rate of the patient. The micro controller also takes the responsibility to send message through GSM modem.

Title- GSM based water pumping station control

Abstract- The control of water pumping station is a tedious task, especially when the technician must walk a long distance to the water pumping to check whether any problem has occurred. A modern way of data transmission based on the GSM network platform is applied. The proposed configuration is developed based on microcontroller, pressure sensors and GSM modems. It enables stable and reliable data transmission from the pumping station to the control center as well as the signal commands from this center to the local control unit.
In this final project study, it is proposed to provide a system for controlling a pumping station through GSM network. SMS/GSM remote water pump controller can control and monitor electric motors through the mobile phone. When a pump fails, an SMS is to be sent to the technician. Controller can also takes the responsibility to send SMS through GSM modem.

Title- GSM Based E-notice Board Using Microcontroller

Abstract- Thinking about the GSM telecommunications technology, it immediately comes to mind voice communication, sending and receiving SMS and MMS, mobile Internet, and all that works by using this modern technology introduced in our lives. Then, communication  technology  not  only  helps  us  to  exchange  information  with human beings but also allows us to carry out monitoring and controlling of machines from  remote locations. This remote control of appliances is possible with wired or wireless communication interfaces embedded in the machines. The use of “Embedded System in Communication” has given rise to many interesting applications. One of such applications is public addressing system (PAS). Many companies are manufacturing audio / video systems like public announcement system, CCTV, programmable sign boards etc. However, all these systems are generally hard-wired, complex in nature and difficult to expand. Therefore, by adding wireless communication interface such as GSM to these systems, we can overcome their limitations. In this way, our project is to control and monitoring microcontroller via GSM module. Specifically, we post up a message in display LCD send via GSM.
